GTA:Feedback and Employment Record
TL;DR
The GTA portal maintains a comprehensive employment record of all teaching activities you undertake throughout your time as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Manchester. This record provides valuable documentation of your teaching experience and can be accessed at any time through the portal at https://gta.manchester.ac.uk/application/.
Employment Record
Your employment record lists every course unit you have supported during your tenure as a GTA, creating a complete history of your teaching contributions across your entire period at the University. This comprehensive record serves as an important professional document when applying for academic positions or demonstrating your teaching experience.
Downloading the Record
To access your employment record, navigate to the left-hand side navigation menu on the GTA portal page where you will find the "Employment record" option. Additionally, within the main body of the three-step application interface, there is a "Print employment record" button that generates a PDF document containing your complete teaching history. The final page of this PDF document is titled "Testimonials" and contains feedback provided by unit academics for the courses you have supported.
In Case Unit Academics need a Prompt
Unit academics can provide feedback and testimonials for your work by accessing their own view of the GTA portal. Next to your name, they will see a green thumbs-up icon which they can select to enter their testimonial or reference information about your performance and contribution to their course unit. This feedback becomes part of your permanent employment record and appears in the testimonials section when you print your employment record.
Ask the Unit Academic for a Testimonial/Record
You are encouraged to approach unit academics proactively to request that they provide feedback through this system. After completing your teaching duties on a course unit, it is entirely appropriate to contact the unit lead or course coordinator and ask them to submit a testimonial through the GTA portal. These references can be particularly valuable when building your teaching portfolio or applying for positions that require evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness. The testimonials from multiple units create a comprehensive picture of your development as a teacher and the breadth of your teaching experience across different topics and student groups.
